With the rapid advancement of modern high‑tech technologies, electronic thermometers have largely replaced mercury thermometers. An electronic thermometer consists of a temperature sensor, an LCD display, a button cell battery, a dedicated integrated circuit, and other electronic components. Compared with traditional mercury thermometers, it offers fast and accurate body‑temperature measurement, along with convenient readings, short measurement times, and high precision. Moreover, electronic thermometers contain no mercury, making them harmless to humans and the environment, and suitable for both home and hospital use.
The most critical component of an electronic thermometer is the NTC temperature sensor, which measures temperature. It is also worth noting that the proper installation of the NTC probe is a key factor influencing both the thermometer’s accuracy and its response time. The temperature sensor generates an electrical signal—either by outputting a digital signal directly or by converting a current‑based (analog) signal into a digital format that can be processed by the device’s integrated circuitry—and then displays the temperature reading digitally on a display such as an LCD, a seven‑segment LED, or an LED matrix. Compared with infrared measurement, NTC sensors offer significantly greater accuracy in body‑temperature detection; during measurement, the NTC probe provides true, unaltered data, eliminating the need for complex algorithms to enhance precision.
