The characteristics of NTC thermistors are well known: high sensitivity, small size, and excellent stability. These resistors are widely used in applications such as barometric pressure measurement, meteorological sounding, and amplitude stabilization. With their extensive use today, NTC thermistors are also required to perform reliably across a broad range of environmental conditions, particularly in high‑humidity, high‑temperature environments. Failure to withstand such extreme heat and moisture can lead to performance degradation, short circuits, open circuits, and other malfunctions. However, conventional thermistors typically undergo reflow soldering at 265°C ± 5°C to join the chip to its leads. Solder has a melting point of approximately 227°C, classifying it as a low‑temperature alloy. Consequently, even if the insulating encapsulant can tolerate temperatures up to 250°C, the solder joints at the NTC chip’s terminals—whose melting point is far below 250°C—prevent the thermistor from enduring such elevated temperatures.

So today, we’d like to introduce a high‑temperature‑ and moisture‑resistant NTC thermistor that outperforms most existing NTC thermistors in both heat resistance and moisture protection. It boasts superior mechanical strength compared to glass‑encapsulated NTC thermistors, offers a long service life, and is highly practical. Moreover, it can operate reliably for extended periods at 250°C in humid environments—quite a demanding condition, as you can imagine. This thermistor precisely addresses these limitations. Currently, conventional designs typically use epoxy resin encapsulation, which struggles with high temperatures and has poor water‑proofing performance.

Compared with conventional NTC thermistors, this device features a modified structure that serves as its key advantage: two leads are soldered to the two lateral surfaces of the NTC chip using high‑temperature solder. Surrounding the NTC chip and the solder joints, a multilayer encapsulation is applied in the following sequence: an inner layer of high‑temperature‑resistant silicone gel, followed by a silicone resin layer, and finally another high‑temperature‑resistant silicone gel layer. Specifically, the high‑temperature solder exhibits a temperature resistance range of 350–400°C; the first encapsulation layer has a temperature resistance range of 260–320°C; the second encapsulation layer ranges from 280–300°C; and the third encapsulation layer also spans 260–320°C.

The first and third encapsulations with high‑temperature silicone layers significantly enhance the material’s heat resistance and its ability to resist moisture, effectively preventing water ingress. The production of this high‑temperature, moisture‑resistant NTC thermistor substantially alleviates numerous operational inconveniences, boosts the yield of qualified products, reduces manufacturing costs, and extends the device’s service life.

The gradual advancement of NTC thermistors has steadily made them the mainstream choice, helping to make the electronics industry increasingly popular and practical.
